Today the term “homeopathy” or “homeopathic” is being used more and more like the terms “organic” or “natural.” Much of the time it really doesn’t relate to the true practice of homeopathy. When homeopaths use the term “classical homeopathy” they are attempting to explain that they are practicing homeopathy in its original form as designed by Samuel Hahnemann in the eighteenth century (see History of Homeopathy).

Classical homeopathy implies that the client meets with the homeopath for a length of time after which the homeopath recommends a single remedy for the person: the entire person with all of his combined mental, emotional and physical symptoms. In classical homeopathy a client never receives more than one remedy at a time - this remedy is considered their “constitutional remedy.” (See also Can Homeopathy help with colds and flus? for Acute vs. constitutional homeopathy)
