Candidiasis, commonly known as yeast infection, occurs when the fungus Candida albicans proliferates and becomes pathogenic. It starts as a simple, non-invasive, sugar-fermenting yeast; then it morphs into a fungus with long, root-like structures which penetrate the mucosa. It may be localized in one area of the body, such as the mouth; or it may be systemic, and affect nearly all bodily systems. It results from an imbalance in the intestinal microflora due to such things as antibiotic overuse, immunosuppressant disease, hormonal imbalance, poor nutrition, diabetes, stress, and invasive procedures such as surgery or catheters.
As you can see, candidiasis affects people whose immune systems have been weakened in some way. Homeopathy works for candidiasis because it strengthens the entire individual, including the immune system. While it is important to maintain low-sugar diets in the early stages of treatment, over time the homeopathic patient can begin to re-introduce the foods he has given up.
